Theatre as a medium strongly relates with the Idea of storytelling which in turn helps in Problem solving, Critical thinking, Lateral Thinking and developing Communication Skills.
The Theatre workshop was an opportunity to apply future skills (Resilience, adaptability, Creativity and Initiatives etc), and enhance one’s potential as an individual. It helped us in delving into a new medium of performance, using body and objects, light and sound and sharing ideas in front of a live audience.
The initial phase of the project was all about deciding on a topic that is relevent and also relatable to the current times. The topics that we had in mind after the group dicussion were:
Manipur Issue
Delhi behind the Green Curtains
Kashmir Issue
Un-announced Deaths
Effect of war on people
We ultimately went ahead in this project, by considering the topic, The effect of war on people by seeking inspiration from an incident from the Gaza- Palestine war.
After deciding the topic, the next step was obviously writing the script for our performance.
Script writing was something that I've been interested since school, so I tried my best to give a major contribution for the same.
Script Writing was one the most tedious step in the first week of the project :
Drafts from the Script
PLANNING THE PERFORMANCE
Planning the performance, was the next step towards the final day, we initially planned on a look and feel of the set and then we started with mutiple practices on a daily basis.
LEARNINGS AND REFLECTIONS
The fun 2 week workshop was all we needed after a lot of tiring projects, this project all about experiencing a new form of storytelling.
Identifying my strengths and weakness is something that I majorly experienced in this project. I never knew that I can manage things on a set and assist in production.
I got to learn how to express sensitivity of a story through a performance which involved sheer hardwork and teamwork.
I awlasy had a lot of respect for theater artists, but being one, no matter it was for two weeks only, made me value their efforts and performance to another level.
The result of learning this art has immediate and palpable reaction which puts the whole practice in a new perspective of ‘The Experiential.’
